The beauty of color - learn how to mix and match colors for color harmony and visual aesthetics. Get the colors right. Color changes everything.

It will take a little time to learn the differences between the greens, blues and violets or yellow orange, orange and red orange, but once you learn them, a whole new world of color will open up to you. You may have never thought of using blue green and red orange together, but a pro designer will learn that skill and create beautiful art.

The fine art of color design is not taught in Art School. We can tell you the theory of color design, but you won't really appreciate it until you see it. Our Show-Stoppers Color Design Pallettes illustrate the visual excitement of color harmony. We look for all the most beautiful colors and then try them together to find perfect color harmony.

Vibrant yellow green does not blend well with most colors, but a soft moss green can be blended with many, many colors. The secrets to color design are choosing the right shades to mix and match.

The first one to learn to use is monochromatic. You almost can't do it wrong. Use a variety of blues in different shades for a the "finished" color scheme with the expensive designer look. Carry around a fabric swatch and match it with similar colors.

For example: Sky blue, Robins Egg Blue, Powder Blue, Ice Blue, Denim Blue, Navy Blue ... a monchromatic blue scheme that will be soothing and peaceful. Dark rich greens are also relaxing.

Dark blue and dark green have a professional look.

Dark blues harmonize beautifully with a touch of red, yellow or peach. The lighter colors add some life and contrast to your color scheme.

Blue, red and yellow are triads. Use the 80-10-10 rule. With these colors, use a dark blue around 80% and the other colors about 10% each.

Blue and peach (orange) are complements. Complements are most attractive when balanced at about 90-10. Either the blue or the peach should be 90% and the other color at 10%. Soft peach colors are warm and inviting.

Triads and Complements are pretty and sophisticated. They are best used with a lot of "restraint". Colors should be subtle and muted, not bright and saturated.

Is there a color you find annoying? There are some places where certain colors are not appropriate. Sometimes it is the combination of colors that make you uncomfortable.

It would be disconcerting to enter a room covered in red. Nobody wants to receive a bank statement printed with a lot of red ink.

But if you love red, you could use a lot of burgundy, maroon, rose and pink with a splash of red for a beautiful "red" monochromatic color scheme. A lot of vibrant red would be hard on the eyes and. It would make you uncomfortable even though you might not know the cause.

Color has a language that speaks louder than your words or text. It is almost impossible to overcome a color message with a message that does not match.

It is important to know what color statement you have made so that your message is consistent, both in your personal and professional life.

  • Blue is serene, tranquil, dignified: nobody will get a "Rock and Roll" message from a dark blue.
  • Red is exuberant and shouts: Bankers do not dress in red or sit on red furniture. Red is a four letter word when you discuss money.
  • Pink is the youthful, feminine version of red. Too much pink is considered "cute" and childlike. Pink should be balanced with a lot of blues or greens to avoid the "cute" look. Pink can be used as an accent to a dominant white.
  • Yellow is cheerful and sunny. You expect to find whimsy and creativity. This message says, "tiptoe through the tulips." Yellow is like a comedy, nobody takes it seriously.
  • Green is harmonious and unifying. It is the color of money. Deep green and mahogony wood colors have an elegant (spelled "expensive") appearance.
  • Orange jumps up and down - your head will spin if you have to look at a lot of orange for a long time. It's not a good color for doctor or dentist's office.
  • Peach - orange lends itself to some very beautiful shades of peach, which is warm and welcoming. Peach creates a feminine and subdued atmosphere, without the "cuteness" of pink.
  • Brown is warm, dependable, traditional, no surprises in this environment.
  • Burgundy adds life to dark colors. It can be used very nicely as a professional color when combined with other deep colors like brown, hunter green or dark blue.
  • Grey is serious, conservative, professional, sophisticated.
  • Black is permanent, alone it is depressing.
  • White is refined and sophisticated.
  • Brass, silver and pewter add sophistication because they are neutrals.
  • Neutrals are muted and subdued colors. The saturated primary colors (red, yellow and blue) are diluted with beige, grey, silver and black. Neutrals are generally appreciated by the mature, sophisticated audience, rather than a younger age group.
  • Gray Blues, Dark Blue, Gray, Brown, and Deep Green have a dignified professional tone.
  • Add an inspirational message using landscapes, flowers, trees, seascapes and birds.
  • Lighter colors of blue, greens or burgundy should be used to create a feminine atmosphere.
